Did I mention that sometimes I might mention other random things?  As a librarian, I get thoroughly fed up of the stereotype that gets constantly reinforced from all angles.  (Did I hear someone say shh?)

So, top 5 TV/fictional librarians:

5. The Librarian (Terry Pratchett's famous orangutan who navigates the mystery of L-Space with ease)

4. Spud Murphy (Dreaded librarian in Eoin Colfer's The Legend of Spud Murphy.  She looks like a stereotype, but she's got a heart of gold and a selection of stamps other librarians would die for.)

3. Evelyn (out of The Mummy.  I was the only person in the cinema who didn't laugh when she proclaimed that she was proud of what she was.  I was sat there going "And what's funny about that?"  Certainly the most glamorous librarian on this list).

2. Giles (out of Buffy.  Well, duh.  Giles on teenagers taking books out of the library: "I thought that was a myth.")

1. Miss Serena Laburnum, the beautiful orphaned librarian in Margaret Mahy's "The Librarian and the Robbers".

When Miss Laburnum is kidnapped by robbers, the council do want her back (she has the keys to the library, after all) but can't decide which budget ransoming the librarian comes out of, so leave it to the cultural committee to decide when they meet in two weeks' time.  (You can tell Margaret Mahy actually was a librarian...)

Plus the line: "Pulverised by literature - the ideal way for a librarian to die!"
