The commentfest continues! And talking of obscure and British things...

As threatened, a 'trailer' of sorts for ITV's 1978-80 WWII drama, Enemy at the Door. I made this as an experiment, because I thought I'd solved my issues with sound-editing on my vidding software. Guess what? I haven't, so this is not entirely a success - there are some sound issues, especially at the start, and it was getting worse with every edit. You may take it as read that I'm not doing anything else like this in a hurry. Still, that's what experiments are for, yes?

However, that said, it is still better than anything Network or Acorn have bothered to do for it and maybe it will explain something of why I like it so much. Or just bore everybody, I'm not sure at this point. Inevitably, there are some spoilers (especially for 1.13), but hopefully not too bad out of context (& not beyond 2.1 because Network wouldn't let me rip 2.2-2.13).

I have been a bit AWOL, but for reasons and also now I have a vid! And, all right, so it is a vid of James Maxwell, BUT it is totally a vid containing cute children and animals, paper aeroplanes, stuffed toys, random barometers, wilful destruction of property, Emma Peel kicking ass, vampires, tea and coffee drinking, two Henry VIIs, rocks, Nazis, space ships, and an actual kitchen sink. Also epic hand-holding (but not anything like as much as there could have been).

And, at some point, I will catch up with other stuff a bit. (♥)

So, as I said, I made an Adam Adamant Lives! vid, and I chose the most obvious song, because how could I not?

Have You Met Miss Jones?
Adam Adamant Lives! Adam & Georgie vid: "We'll keep on meeting till we die, Miss Jones and I!" (2.36 mins.) Not particularly spoilery, just for fun.

I made a vid! Or to be more accurate, I finally finished the very last bit of a vid that's been sitting neglected on my pc since July or something. It's Survivors, and I originally started it for [community profile] hc_bingo square "apocalypse" (my wild card square).

For [community profile] hc_bingo square "Learning to be loved".

I made a Frank Marker/Helen Mortimer fanvid, Helen POV. I didn't even think that was actually possible, but apparently it is if you're me and you don't have much in the way of standards when it comes to vidding. In the middle of looking for some thoughtful, quiet old 50s song or an instrumental piece that would do, I somehow wound up with this. (I worried for a bit about whether or not it still met the prompt, but I've decided it does. I hope.)

They Don't Know About Us
Public Eye: Nobody else understands what Mrs Mortimer sees in Frank. (Frank Marker/Helen Mortimer, S4 fanvid.)

Music: They Don't Know by Kirsty MacColl

Or, in short, this is what happens in S4 according to Mrs Mortimer. Not particularly spoilery as such. Bookended with a little S6. Whether it's ironic, or horribly shippy, or just that Mrs Mortimer is right in fundamentals (and the long-term) if not the immediate outcome, I don't know.

Anyway, as you'll have noticed, I've been trying to explain Public Eye since last November and failing. Now I've made a vid and that's the best explanation I have, and I'm happy at last:

All These Things
A Public Eye tribute.
(Length: 4.59 minutes)
"You've lived to be old... It's not a question of years, it's a question of seeing." Frank Marker and a life full of other people's problems.

(Also, but not entirely unrelated:) There were two 500 Prompts ficlets that I was going to get finished for today, but they'll have to come along later. Sorry! (They weren't even very exciting; I just suddenly realised I could fulfil part of the meme's purpose and post birthday fic, only then...

I got eaten by a fanvid. So, I am behind with everything. Yes, in news that will surprise no one except me, I made a Public Eye fanvid, and I'm not sure it's not terrible, but it is, finally everything I wanted to say about it, and that's a big relief. You see, I did have a possible song in mind, but it'd been used on a few vids before (and I associate it with another show as a result). But! I listened to it again, and you know what? The other vidders are wrong; it's about Public Eye! There wasn't even one word in the lyrics I had to handwave. So then I fudged through some of the technical issues (will definitely have to find a better way another time) and... lo, fanvid! Unfortunately, YouTube made it look even crappier than it is, so I'm trying Vimeo.

(I am now uploaded to Vimeo and at the point where they tell me to go get lost while they think about processing my vid at some point in the near future, and what am I still doing hanging around here when I'm not even paying them for it? *sigh* And, all right, it's not in those words exactly, but that's the gist. It makes me feel slightly antagonistic towards the site, as you can tell. Still, the YouTube version was horrible. My vid was not that bad.)
thisbluespirit: (dw - amy)
A Dungeons & Dragons cartoon vid I've been working on (and off) for a while. My tribute to the very best 1980s cartoon series. (You know, in the highly biased opinion of someone who fell for it hard at six. And again at fourteen...) When I started this in July or August, I had been about to make something completely different, but was suddenly struck by how much this song fitted so much about the series.

With many thanks to [personal profile] justice_turtle for his invaluable help towards the end. (♥)

1. I have been a little stuck with the 500 Prompts fic(let)s, even though I have about six more in rough, because of one being really awkward and me refusing to type up any others till I'd worked out what to do with it - and I have just now cracked it! Not by doing anything special, but adding one bit last week and deleting another this week and suddenly, it works, whereas it didn't before. Also, of course, I was a wee bit distracted by the S&S 100 Element prompts. I am, it has to be said, always so easily distracted by any mention, thought or basically anything to do with shiny Elements.

2. Words learnt in the course of writing it (and, [personal profile] seriesfive, this is one you may find useful): anatidaephobia - the fear of being watched by a duck. Not that there are any ducks in my fic; it's just amazing what you find out when you were looking for something else.

3. There is, it turns out now a [livejournal.com profile] b7_kinkmeme! I've not played with many kinkmemes before, but it looks like being fun. And, really, how come there never was one before, because, B7...? (I did once dabble with the Downton Abbey kinkmeme, which was very vanilla and generally non-anonymous. I'm not much good at being anonymous. I mention this only because it has the best name: [livejournal.com profile] dakinkmeme, ha.) Anyway, more B7 fic = a good thing, right?

(For those just getting into B7, after all the recent oppression, there are quite a few comms for it, and though they may seem quiet, they all have actual people on and are worth playing with: [livejournal.com profile] b7friday, [livejournal.com profile] blakes7, [livejournal.com profile] b7fic, [livejournal.com profile] b7recs [livejournal.com profile] b7icons and my own misguided attempt, which does have lots of prompts and no one's even done Blake/Avon for it, you know... [livejournal.com profile] b7love_250 and others. And [community profile] blakes7 on Dreamwidth. Sometimes LJ is more fun, sorry Dreamwidth. ;-p)

4. Also I think I am on the verge of finishing the vid I've been sort of making on and off since August and at the moment, I may even be really pleased with it? I still have some final clips to add. I have a low-quality test version up on YouTube as private, but would anyone be kind enough to take a look at it? I'd need someone who ideally didn't know very much about the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon and preferably a little bit about vidding, if anyone was willing. Just to know whether a) I'm right and it does work and have some progression and I shouldn't mess with it too much now, or b) I'm wrong and it's an incoherent mess with no sense of progression, which it could well be, and I should fix it. (And - fingers crossed - I don't seem to be making myself go dizzy and hyper-sensitive to noise with it at the moment, either. \o/)

A Once Upon A Time S1 vid for Red, Snow & Charming. This was made for [personal profile] settiai, who put a Red/Snow/Charming vid on her [community profile] snowflake_challenge wishlist and which I thought was a great idea. And then I found this song, which was something else again. So I don't know if this is at all what was wanted, but here it is, to the best of my (rather limited) vidding ability:

I made a proper fanvid for Shadow of the Tower (with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] akashasheiress who - accidentally - gave me the song and made it possible).

YouTube link in case embedding fails.
Henry/Elizabeth of York and the endless conspiracies and mistrust and the fragility of this new dynasty. (Some shots of, erm, rather fake death/blood and executions. Also death masks again. But not morbid like the vidlets.)

Lyrics under the cut )

And I know, one day I'll do a fanvid that isn't really odd and obscure again.

I have made a fanvid and I don't hate it! I made it for some of the random TV I've been watching lately, so it is obscure (but I don't care). Also, there is more dancing. Apparently this is a thing now and all my vids will have dancing in. Even if it's completely inappropriate...

Smile on my Face )
thisbluespirit: (S&S - Silver looks up)
When I said the other day that part of my problems were my own fault, it was the making of this (largely) over the weekend that I meant. (And, don't worry, I'm not making another vid until I can be sensible again, which I thought I had trained myself to be. Also I encountered yet more technical issues. *joy*) Anyway, I killed my brain for a Completely Obscure Fanvid! Yay, me. And here it is:

Death Waltz (Fall of Eagles, 1974) to Tchaikovsky, Waltz (Serenade in C).
Royals and revolutionaries dancing towards disaster. Featuring (deep breath): Charles Kay (Nicholas), Patrick Stewart (Lenin), Gemma Jones (Princess Vicky), Curt Jurgens (Bismarck), Denis Lill (Fritz), Gayle Hunnicutt (Alexandra), Barry Foster (Kaiser Wilhelm II), and Diane Keen (Empress Elisabeth). With Miles Anderson (Franz Josef), Pamela Brown (Archduchess Sophia), Michael Kitchen (Trotsky), Lynn Farleigh (Nadezhda Krupskaya), Paul Eddington, Donald Gee, Freddie Jones (Witte), David Collings (Pavel Milyukov), Maurice Denham (Kaiser Wilhelm I) and Jan Francis (Ballerina).

With a warning for some mild blood & violence, and use of (what I assume to be) contemporary historical images.

If you have a moment to look at it, that would be very kind - it's not spoilery (I'm still only halfway through the series and anyway, it's history!) and I hope that it will either work in a) conveying the general overall sense of the vid, or b) at least be a pretty thing with dancing and movement and Patrick Stewart eating pancakes. (It is a fairly painless way to see some of Patrick Stewart being Lenin.) If not, well, at least I like it...

The first episode was entitled Death Waltz, and I immediately had this idea - luckily, as I found, I actually had a fitting piece of music by Tchaikovsky as well. Although I am probably a bad person for making even dramatised versions of Lenin and Trotsky sort of waltz.
thisbluespirit: (S&S - Sapphire & Steel 3)
This was what I was supposed to be making when I was distracted by 'Summer Fly'. (Well, ish. I was supposed to be making Sapphire/Steel, but I hope to resolve my technical issues first. And then I was dividing up my clips between these two to try and avoid too much repetition.)

Silver/Sapphire/Steel fanvid:
Always With Me (Link goes to YouTube)

Sapphire, Silver and Steel and the dance that they are. To Hayley Westenra's (English lyrics) version of 'Itsumo Nando Demo'. Clips from Assignments 3 & 6 only. (No spoilers as such.)

I did what I wanted to do - I hope it isn't too dull for everyone else. I suppose I should apologise for using Hayley Westenra again, but the right song is just the right song, so I won't.

Lyrics under cut )

I made this last week, but I had such issues uploading it over the weekend (five times before it came out without weird pixel-y bits!) that I've been waiting to check it didn't explode or get taken down or something. However, it seems to be okay. At the moment...
thisbluespirit: (pg - Lynda writing)
Fanvid. Successfully. Uploaded. *collapses with relief* (Only took about 5 and a half hours in the end...)

Anway, I will catch up with stuff later. In the meantime, here it is. Cheap and cheerful (and the beginning could have done with tweaking, but there's a problem with tweaking beginning clips when the middle and ending ones are fine. Maybe one day I will update it or something.)

A general tribute (no spoilers!) for Press Gang - and its love affair with phones. (If you've ever seen any of this show, you will know what I mean. Wrong numbers, BT faults, anonymous calls, killers on the line, answering machines, early mobiles etc etc). And I got nearly everyone in there. (Sadly no Sam. Or Mr Winters.)
