If anyone's looking for some encouragement to write, or even just some company, it's a [community profile] fic_rush weekend! Go to [community profile] fic_rush_48 and comment on the most recent hourly post to join in.

All are welcome, and we'll cheer you on/provide accountability writing fic, meta, essays, letters, Dreamwidth posts, doing laundry, icon-making (sometimes with words!) or penguin-wrangling, as you please. You can take part in 1 hour or all 48, depending on what suits you.

... oh and it's a [community profile] fic_rush weekend again! If you're writing (or whatever) and need some cheering on or accountability or what have you, hie on over to [community profile] fic_rush_48 where the action is (and the penguins).

[community profile] fic_rush is having a celebratory 100th round, which also doubles up for our 10th anniversary!

It started a few hours ago and will run until some point on Monday when we reach Hour 100.

If you want to join in, now is a good time, as you have more days to remember to drop in for an hour or two (or day or two, however you roll!) Just comment on the latest hourly post at [community profile] fic_rush_48

Wanting some company and encouragement as you wrestle with fic deadlines, or someone to cheerlead you on to the NaNo finish line? Come and join us! (It's pretty laid back - any kind of writing counts, and we've even been known to cheer on people doing their laundry.)

Also, if you ever have taken part in the past, feel free to drop by and say hi. ♥

Fic Rush!

Before I forget again, it is a [community profile] fic_rush weekend!

If you want cheering on while you write stuff (fannish or origfic, or NaNo, or essays or whatever, or, hey, make icons*, or do laundry, we won't tell), or to cheer others on in similar attempts or just to pour out writerly woes to sympathetic souls, head on over to [community profile] fic_rush_48 and comment on the latest hourly post to join in! All welcome.

* Which totally sometimes have words on anyway!

* It's a [community profile] fic_rush weekend! If you want company, accountability or whatever to cheer you on in your attempts to write fic/letters/essays/do laundry/wrangle penguins, you can drop in at any point until midnight Sunday (GMT), even if only for an hour.

* I have been trying to reconstruct my tumblr here: https://thisbluespirit.tumblr.com/

I've been trying to find reblogs of my stuff and it's so hard to search, because reblogs don't appear in searches, so you have to find someone who may have reblogged it and search their tumblr, and they may or may not have an accessible archive/tags or whatever. And, of course, some stuff was never reblogged and is gone. The worst thing about this is that I have lost half of my Favourite Episodes of Old Telly posts, which would have been the first thing I'd have saved if I'd been deliberately deleting it.

(Also Mariocki found my Favourite Episodes post for "My Life's My Own" for Public Eye and tumblr immediately marked it as blocked adult material, so I had to remake it and repost and then appeal to get it unblocked. Stuff them and their idiot bots! There are some hands in it; they really don't like hands at all, do they? Evil hands!

And, yes, it damn well is adult material! It's a wonderful, grown-up episode of 1960s TV that's progressive, complex and messy and human, well played, well written, and one of the best episodes of any television series I've ever seen. So now they made me angry, even if a bit irrationally.)

Still catching up!

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Some comms of my own:

[community profile] tardis_library - a Doctor Who reccing comm, made as a successor (but different from) the lovely [community profile] calufrax (now inactive, but with an amazing backlist that is still one of the best ways to get at gems from the Teaspoon Archive) - recs from all corners of the Whoniverse, posted anywhere, and in any media format. I'm so pleased with how this has taken off - more people & more recs are always welcome!

[community profile] historium which I have just set up as a central hub for all history fandoms, whether RPF or fictional to meet, post stuff, or use as a launching pad to set up more specific comms. It's had a great beginning & I need to get back to it once I am a little more recovered.

[community profile] tic_tac_woe or Apocabingo - a panfandom mini bingo challenge (using a tic tac toe 3x3 card) with all apocalyptic prompts! No deadlines, just sign up for a card & then end worlds/countries etc. or save them as you wish. (Fictionally, obviously.)

[community profile] who_allsorts - as an extra, because I meant to only include three, but I've a soft spot for this one. It's another Doctor Who community - an old-school prompt table with claiming, but with bite-sized tables. You can sign up for up to two at once and claims are very flexible (anyone can make the same claim, pairings/characters/eras/themes are all accepted, so you can choose how wide or narrow to make it). I created it with the object of enabling more DW content of all kinds, and I still think the prompt tables are very pretty!

Not-by-me communities:

[community profile] hc_bingo - still my favourite bingo, despite frequently being terrified by the prompts! It's very flexible about interpretation of prompts, and fills can be comfort, or hurt, or hurt/comfort as you please, and any fanworks are eligible. It runs once a year, but there are fun amnesty challenges and you only need to create one fanwork a year to stay eligible for the next round. It's been the perfect excuse to write a lot of things, and I've really enjoyed the Amnesty challenges when I've taken part. (Which are open to anyone if that works for you better than a bingo.)

[community profile] fic_rush - we need to sort ourselves out for another round soon, but this 48 hour actual ficathon (i.e. writing marathon) has been a wonderful supportive & social ingredient of my journalling life ever since I first plucked up the courage to join. There are ninja penguins, alien fish, glowsticks, and writerly pasta and attempts at galactic domination, but you don't have to worry about that. I mean, until and unless the penguins get you...

I enjoy recs and reccing comms, the main two of which I follow here are [community profile] fancake (though I never can get myself together to post for a theme) and [community profile] gensplosion for gen recs (which I have recced for, but am bad at doing), both of which have led me to some excellent fic, and both of which are panfandom.

There are so many comms I like! Here are, quickly, some more:

[community profile] who_at_50 (general DW comm, despite the name)

Bingos - [community profile] ladiesbingo, [community profile] trope_bingo, [community profile] allbingo and [community profile] genprompt_bingo. (Of these I particularly like [community profile] genprompt_bingo (which takes any kind of fills, despite the name, it's just that the prompts are gen prompts) but they're all good in their different ways.)

Icons - [community profile] iconthat, [community profile] icontalking, [community profile] icon_library, [community profile] icons10in20, [community profile] icons & [community profile] fandom_icons. (A mix of challenge and general posting comms.)

Which is probably enough from me, but I still like comms. And that's even before we get to all the exchanges or my other comms I run or co-mod...

Sorry about this for those not interested in [community profile] fic_rush, but for the rest of us - are you happy to see [community profile] fic_rush back? Would you like to pimp it near and far?

Have this handy dandy working-link banner to post in your own journals and comms just by c+p from the text box below. (It's a hyperlink, so can be posted into LJ as easily as Dreamwidth). (Next up we need a rebloggable tumblr post, but I'll have to think about that. It may require a penguin.)

ETA: ... and here's a rebloggable tumblr post.

Things`

1. It is snowing!!! I mean, there is white stuff on the ground, although currently it is more snowing sidewise and not doing much, but I could totally build a snowman in my backyard, which is more than I could have said since I don't know how long. (I live in the NE, but by the sea in a valley, so snow is normally mythical stuff you get up on the hills.)

2. In the nicest possible surprise ending to the recent fic_rush query, Beth came back! \o/ Anyone who is a former member of fic_rush or who would be interested in taking part in future rounds (where we encourage each other to get (mainly writerly*) things done over 48 hours), should hoy themselves over to [community profile] fic_rush as soon as they are able. All are welcome.

3. I've looked up more weird stuff for my WWII generals fic in the last two days than I have for anything for ages. (I mean, there's stuff where all you need is canon, and fic where you read whole books, and fic where you keep looking random things up... and then there's fic where you really hope nobody's monitoring your Googling too hard because they might be getting the wrong idea, and this one turned out to definitely be the latter.)

But [community profile] fic_rush anyway, people! ;-)

(Goodness knows where those ninja penguins might have got to over the past year - it's going to take some time to gather them back in...)

* Up to and including laundry, applications, essay, art, icons...

[personal profile] justice_turtle has been talking about reviving [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush on Dreamwidth. After the LJ debacle last spring, the mod vanished, multiple long-time members moved over and we haven't had a round since. JT has been trying to get hold of Beth ([livejournal.com profile] lolmac) but unfortunately with no luck. The other problem, you see, has been that Beth created back up Dreamwidth comms in case of an event like this, but she's the only mod on them, so none of the rest of us can use them - so both the main comm and the monthly fic_rush_48 names are already taken.

Anyway, at this point it's probably time to say, what the hell, and make a new comm and see if we can get it going again. JT has a post up on the original comm if you've still got an account and want to have your say and offer if you'd like to do any of the modding, emergency stunt-modding, polling, or *gasp* scheduling. Any fellow 'rushers round here still interested? I'd certainly been thinking, like JT, that it really was about time we picked ourselves up and tried again.

For people new to the idea, Fic Rush was created by [livejournal.com profile] studyofrunning and later run by [livejournal.com profile] lolmac (plus many other people over the years who modded, scheduled, polled, joined in, and created each month) and it is (or was) a monthly 48 hour online write-in for fic-writers. People could aim to join in as much or as little as they wanted - one-hour appearances or trying to use the weekend to finish a WIP, it all depended on how much time you had and what you wanted to do. In practice, it was all very laid back and many people also used it as a means of beating procrastination on artwork, applications, essays, and even housework. We also helped each other with plot unsticking, brainstorming and even beta-ing.

So we're keen to know if any former regulars are still interested (and if anyone wants to volunteer for any modly tasks), and of course if new people also think it sounds like it could be useful/fun.
