[personal profile] el_staplador requested Meet Me at Midnight for the Fic Commentary Meme.

This was a recent one, written to finish off one of my remaining [community profile] who_allsorts prompts on my Fourth Doctor claim, the prompt being, "I will go alone," which, in conjunction with Four, made me think of the line from Androids of Tara where the Doctor says, "They always want you to go alone when you're walking into a trap, have you noticed that?" So I thought it could be fun to play with that being the Doctor's voice of experience speaking there.

I picked the prompt set out a couple of years ago now, and the vague idea had been lurking for a while, and then suddenly the full idea just struck me, and I wrote it and it was a lot of fun. I do have my original notebook version, but it didn't see a lot of changes, overall.

Each segment was, hopefully (and judging by comments, fairly successfully), a typical scene with each Team TARDIS of Four's era. (Well, barring Four, Romana & Adric, but the E-Space trilogy is still on my to-watch pile.)

Even more random than last week. I was going to pick the five previous bookmarks to last week, but they were all to do with my Fourth Doctor recs post, so I thought I'd better mix it up a bit more than that:

The Good, the Bad, and the Hovercrafts by eponymous_rose (All ages, 1814 words. Fourth Doctor, Romana I, K9.) In which various alien entities get held off at the pass, the Doctor and Romana take up jogging, and K-9, to everyone's horror, tells a joke. Lovely, light, humorous piece.

Hourglass by giandujakiss (Multi-fandom timeloops.) And, indeed, need I say more than 'multifandom timeloops vid'?

The Way Back by Meadowlark (All ages, 3942 words. First Doctor, Steven Taylor.) After witnessing the Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve, Steven is disillusioned with life with in the TARDIS and vows to give it up. But when he's compelled to stay, the Doctor offers him an unexpected olive branch. Pitch-perfect fic to round out why Steven chooses to stay after all.

The Doctor Meets a Fantastic Beast by Kass (G, 892 words. Eleventh Doctor, Newt Scamander, Amy Pond, Rory Williams.) The Doctor and his companions meet Newt Scamander. Cute crossover with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Soft Jaws, Strong Bite by nonelvis (All ages, 2141 words. Twelfth Doctor/Romana II.) A brief and heartwarming story about the Doctor, Romana, space pirates, and the universe's greatest children's show about prehistoric reptile cyborgs. What it says, and also with bonus pirates.

And these are the remaining odd few things I did for [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo that weren't part of a forthcoming icon set.

A handful from The Strange Report (mainly because it was pretty and I was tired of BBC Shakespeare every day) and a few in tribute to the lovely Mary Tamm (as Romana) for today's entry.

Icons under the cut )
Mostly I made Shakespeare icons, which I should hopefully post here tomorrow in honour of the final day of 'naarting' for 2012. I also made a texture set, which is in my previous post. (Textures being various things, but mainly patterns, colours, gradients, pictures etc. that can be used as layers when making icons and other graphics. These are icon-sized, and I made them by scanning in two old cards and some material together and then playing around with the result.)

Slowly, slowly, I'm typing these up!

So: two Star Wars crossovers. That's a first for me - SW fic.

Confusion in the Force
Written for [livejournal.com profile] pitry who asked for Chris Skelton meeting Luke Skywalker. (I actually wrote this well before the A2A finale, in rough, so it might have been different otherwise)
(All ages, 427 words).

Confusion in the Force )

Flight of Fancy

Written for [livejournal.com profile] curuchamion, who requested a TARDIS/Millennium Falcon fic.
(All ages, 303 words. Han Solo, Leia Organa, Romana I, Fourth Doctor, K9, and two ships.)

Story: It's All Glamour and Guns in Outer Space
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3671
Characters/Pairings: Romana I, Jenna Stannis, Servalan, Vila Restal, Fourth Doctor, Roj Blake, Kerr Avon, K9
Warnings: None - spoiler free! (S1 Blake's 7, Key to Time DW)

Summary: The Doctor’s on the wrong planet and Blake’s blowing up the wrong target. More to the point, Romana, Jenna Stannis and Servalan are causing trouble in a futuristic fashion boutique... (Doctor Who/Blake's 7)

I haven't forgotten the few drabbles I still owe, but I wrote this the other night when I really couldn't sleep. Somehow it cured my insomnia and I was even still amused by it in the morning. So, typed up, my first proper B7/DW crossover. Except it's very silly, and all about 1978 being the year for glamour. And it was supposed to be Romana, Jenna and Servalan being awesome (in their own very different ways, and always in stylish outfits), but Vila sneaked in. (The main story is the subplot, but there was still room for a tiny bit of Avon-snark. It wouldn't be B7 otherwise.) I tried my very best to make it both spoiler-free and accessible, but with the rider that I can't guarantee I succeeded.

It is, with impressive speed, already up on Teaspoon.

The first few (not necessarily in order, though - sorry!):

For [livejournal.com profile] pitry: Screwdriver )

For [livejournal.com profile] primsong: Job Satisfaction )

For [livejournal.com profile] paranoidangel42: Outmanoeuvred )

For [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1: Burned )

I promise the rest won't be too long in following (and I've still got 2 spare gaps - and I'm not going to tell on anyone who doesn't run the meme in return, really...)
thisbluespirit: (Romana)
[livejournal.com profile] belantana asking me about Classic Who reminded me that I'd given up reporting on my rewatching in order (that I started about four years ago now - so long that I'm just pining for One, Ian and Barbara by now.)

This was because I kept watching bits of serials and only finishing them months later in a very unorganised way, so here goes, nevertheless:

(Naturally, there will be 1978 spoilers).

Thoughts on the first half of the Key To Time )

The below are as spoiler-free as I can manage, though:
The Company of Friends )

The Shadow of the Scourge )

(Did I say my reviews are boring as I mostly like things? It's true.

According to [livejournal.com profile] jjpor, a fic I would never write. Well, actually, if it involves Romana I, I'd write it quite happily. (And maybe once my rewatching has moved on from KtoTime, I'd say the same of Romana II, even). Oh, and, btw, please remember: you asked for this.

In which the Doctor educates Romana. Possibly. (All ages, 1001 words).

Title Princess, Android, Time Lady?
Author [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating All Ages
Word Count 1509
Characters Fourth Doctor, Romana I, Prince Reynart, Princess Strella, K9.
Summary Less Romana deciding to leave and more the Doctor making an embarrassing little slip in this case...

Happy Endings, Hasty Exits No. 10. I haven't been running off without writing people's stories. I just found this on my pc, merely awaiting an ending. I must have got ahead of myself at some point. I was amused, so I thought I'd finish it and post it.

(EditNow up on Teaspoon!)
