I just finished rewatching The Sun Makers. It occurs to me that last time I watched through this era must have been that time I was ill, so I found this a lot less dull than last time.
And the Doctor's inability to tell the difference between sweets is clearly deliberate and not due to lack of jelly babies. (He just gave a jelly baby to someone and said it was a humbug...)
Some very funny bits, in between the corridors and some lovely Leela stuff (although the threat of the steamer is one of the nastier ideas the show has come up with. Yep. If Leela had stayed with the Tylers, it would have been a lot better all round! Except for Andred.) Her scorn for the scared rebels, her relationship with K9 and the fact that she accepts the Doctor's "I always whisper when I'm opening safes" as a reasonable explanation are all great. She's such a strong character, it suddenly seems quite a shock when she finds something that really does scare her and nearly comes to a nasty end.

Date: 1 Jun 2009 06:39 pm (UTC)And Cordo, I suppose? I did consider a story from this, but I really didn't have the heart. And she doesn't bother to say goodbye to him. But she is, quite wonderfully, the alpha female wherever she goes. Everyone else seems pretty impressed, too. (I have to do a plug at this point, sorry, and say have you seen my Happy Endings, Hasty Exits stories, because they are all alternative "I want to stay here and marry X/Y/Z!" for companions, but especially Leela, because she really did do that. So there's Leela/Poul, Leela/Litefoot & Jago and Leela/Colby. Maybe I'll come back to Cordo eventually?)
Yes, the running down the P45 corridor is amusing...

Date: 3 Jun 2009 05:45 pm (UTC)I decided for the sake of my sanity (because Leela/Whoever seems to work so well, I end up disappearing up my own AU) that for now, I'm only doing a Leela/Andred story to finish her run off. But I did consider Cordo. I'm just still plagued by some of the others and I've got to cling to a least a fine veneer of sanity.
