As I said, I did some rewatching of Five, and then tried to write this for Whumptober prompt 19 "Bleeding" even if I didn't manage to actually type it up fully till now. I am a bit shocked at myself that I couldn't get it to double up for any of my bingos! (I mean, I suppose I could have claimed it for the
hc_bingo wild card square, but that seemed a bit pointless.)
Bleeding Out (2377 words) by thisbluespirit
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Relationships: Fifth Doctor & Tegan Jovanka
Characters: Tegan Jovanka, Fifth Doctor (Doctor Who)
Additional Tags: Blood, Gunshot Wounds, Whumptober 2021, Historical
Summary: The Doctor gets shot and there's nobody on hand to help but Tegan.
Like anything Five/Tegan I write, I do not know whether to label it with the ship or not, so I settled for not. (I tag it gen, whispering intently, "It's a lie!" lol.) I'm not sure it's come out as I wanted, but never mind. I'm in a place where I rearrange all my words in the wrong places, but I still want to write and here is a thing, which is a thing, and I love them very much anyway, whatever way you look at them.
Also I was trying recently to do a writing exercise as a thing to stop me having long periods where I don't write at all (which is fine in some ways, but then, because of the ME, it's very hard to work my way back in or not to immediately overdo it again when I do feel better), so made myself write a drabble or ficlet about anything, like the last thing I watched/read or whatever. But I liked this little one for Hammer's Vampire Circus (what I had just watched that day) enough to type it up for
100ships and
100fandoms. (It was a weird one! I kept changing my mind about it. It's got some interesting things, but it's also kind of like Vampire Gary Glitter child molestation at the same time and idk about that, really.) This ficlet brought to you chiefly by the fact that I always like Adrienne Corri and that my chiefly-DW-based experience of Laurence Payne had not at all led me to expect that he would be really quite sad and pretty in a Hammer film. But he was, and they were a thing together, sort of.

Date: 9 Nov 2021 09:29 am (UTC)*fistbumps of commiseration* Your words, when I've seen them, have always been very beautiful collections of words, though!
Although I moan like this and then sometimes have good patches and write 10k words and then for some reason nobody gives me sympathy any more! (I'm trying to see if I can make me be less up and down, but I think you also know how one goes, too. ♥)

Date: 9 Nov 2021 07:32 pm (UTC)Here's to good patches and yeah, less up-and-down and more regular word output! One can always hope! And it would be much nicer to moan because we have too many ideas and not enough time to write down every word, right? XD

Date: 9 Nov 2021 05:42 pm (UTC)Lalla was a bat! She was technically sort of even in the ficlet.
(I am watching my way through the Hammer vampire films, because I am not so much into Horror, but by and large traditional vampire things hit my comfortable Gothic spot very nicely indeed. It would be nice if one day Hammer would learn what the words female agency actually mean, but sometimes they almost think about it for a moment. And in exchange, they do provide a lot of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, plus the usual old telly suspects being vampires or vampire fodder. It's also v interesting to see which ones Robert Holmes riffed on and how he didn't just take the trappings and do pastiche, but he actually addresses a lot of Hammer's faults in the process.)

Date: 9 Nov 2021 06:29 pm (UTC)I am also not a horror fan strictly speaking, but I am interested in my mid-70s favorites being evil and/or distressed at each other, so I may or may not ever watch these films but at the very least I enjoyed your fic :D

Date: 9 Nov 2021 06:39 pm (UTC)Actually, it's even better - she was an acro-bat! These vampires were all also maybe shifters and a circus act, so I suppose it had to happen. They seemed to really fly!
I am interested in my mid-70s favorites being evil and/or distressed at each other,
There is a lot of distress and evil in this kind of thing, it's true. And a splendid Gothic tradition of fainting men. I think the one that threw me the most was Michael Gough in the 1958 Dracula because he was the hapless out-of-his-depth male assistant and I was just, but... isn't he evil? How can he not be evil? Clearly he must be! lol.
I only got into these because of my whole falling into the very large, very b&w/beige hole of old TV when I was too ill to cope with modern TV (it moves very fast and is very noisy! i had no idea but so it is) and then went, oh, well, I always wanted to see a couple of other things David Collings was in... (And one of those was an anthology of adaptations of Victorian gothic things and so I was very brave and also watched the b&w cardboard ITV version of Dracula & it had so many people I like I had to be brave and then they were, indeed, very distressed and/or evil. It was delightful.)
10 years later, it's just an addiction, really, and it keeps creeping outwards into things like Hammer and goodness only knows what.
