In lieu of proper posting...
1. Whumptober's prompt lists are out!
2. Thought this piece of SF found-fic posted to
rainbowfic lately was so clever and funny.
3. I don't think I've mentioned this (along with all the other watching/reading posts I've not been making) but I actually started a watch-all-the-Austens project last year. By dint of what fell into my hands and won't really won't, not at prices I'm willing to pay, I've actually done all the available Emmas & got to the two 1996s recently (last year did 1972, 2009 (♥) & 2020), although I haven't rewatched Clueless - I'll have to keep an eye on the charity shop offerings, just to be completist now. But, certainly, compared to most of the others, it was a five cakes situation, honestly - six, given Clueless, and I thought this vid was really well done and highlighted that in a fun way (even if they watched a slightly different five cakes to me - I don't do those kind of web series, though, so I'm not going that far):
(Am being slightly better at keeping up even! We'll see how it goes... Thank you for your continued patience. ♥)

Date: 30 Aug 2023 05:26 pm (UTC)And, aw, thanks! I mean, I'm mainly after the older BBC ones, really - you gave me the 1980(?) S&S, which I haven't watched yet, but the 1980 P&P and the 1971 S&S are just not available for any realistic prices online (a lot of older releases are like this). I think there's an older Persuasion, but tbh, I haven't really tried for that one, so I don't know whether it's the same case or not. I think you'd have to be very lucky to fall over those in a charity shop, but no harm in looking out, if you're kind enough to offer! ♥

Date: 30 Aug 2023 05:55 pm (UTC)I'll keep my eyes open - there's also the local chap who brings tables full of books and DVDs to the Saturday Farmers' [sic] Market (I call it the street market 'cos there's nary a farmer in sight!). I've seen older movies on the table sometimes, even B&W ones, so it'll be worth my while to check when passing the tables!

Which versions are you thinking of trying?
I’ve tried doing things like this before- Honestly, how are you meant to do one each day?
I think you're meant to start now and post during the month - but I always just do whatever I can, which is usually only one or two at most. I do like their prompts, though, and it's a fun fest, with a lot of people taking part - nice to have that sort of fannish buzz for a while again.

Date: 1 Sep 2023 08:06 pm (UTC)Talking of which, you might like this too - I was watching Glorious 39 recently and I knew something at the back of my head was amusing me about this casting, but I thought it was just Romola and Bill Nighy being father and daughter again, but no:
I give you Mr Woodhouse 2020, Emma 2009 and Mr Knightley 1996, because that is incestuous only-20-actors-on-this-island Brit casting for you. XD
(It doesn't end well for these three, tho, heh. Murdery things happen.)

Date: 1 Sep 2023 11:01 pm (UTC)The small size of the British film industry is both endearing (all my favorites popping up again and again in new combinations!) and frustrating (I know it's notoriously hard to break into the industry if you don't have connections). But times like this make it extra fun!

Date: 2 Sep 2023 08:22 am (UTC)Oh, wow, what a cast! Is it any good? I haven't heard of that one but I may have to watch that one, despite the murdery things!
It's a Stephen Poliakoff thing (hence the ridiculous cast - it also has Christopher Lee, Jenny Agutter, Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Christie, David Tennant & Charlie Cox), and, yes, or at least I liked it very much. It's psychological and low-key rather than dramatic (it tells us pretty swiftly who's been killing people), but it's centred around Romola and we don't have scenes that she's not in, save for the 21st C bits. It's set in the summer of 1939 and about how far some people in power in the UK went to try and make appeasement happen and also that getting swept under the carpet immediately after and ever since. There's also pretty much nothing Romola wears in the whole film that isn't fabulous as well. Basically she becomes aware that pro-war people are being silenced (Jeremy Northam busy being murderous on vinyl, if not on screen) and some member(s) of her family proceed to gaslight her to make sure she doesn't talk either - and it's a lot about how far this goes and who's involved, and if she can endure it, and - in the 21st C bits - what eventually happened to her character. I didn't find it distressing in a way that I've found other things like that, but obv cannot say for other people.
I saw posters for it at the time 2009 and wanted to see it, but missed it, and it's taken me a long time to be at a level of well-ness enough to watch films, but I'm glad I finally did.
