thisbluespiritA series of three drabbles written for the Crossed Swords challenge on adwc.
They're Diana Wynne Jones / Doctor Who crossovers. Don't know if people have read The Tough Guide to Fantasyland (or The Dark Lord of Derkholm) but if not you must go out and find it! Right now!

So three Doctors and companions attempt to buy a sword for the Fantasyland Tour...

The Tough Guide takes Fantasy stories literally (trilogies are 'three volume brochures') and is a travel guide full of things like:
MAP: ... no Tour is complete without a map. Further, you must not expect to be let off from visiting every damn' place on it.
and procedes to lovingly and alphabetically demolish almost every fantasy cliche out there. My favourite bit being the three page essay on the dangers of swords, categorised by type - and the conclusion that they're more trouble than they're worth, but not to have one would be like walking around in traffic with no clothes on. (Hence my title).
