The only other narrator I've had so far is Gwen Cooper, who decided that it couldn't be worse than the day job.

It's a tale of violence, death and sex, set in Wales.  It's not Torchwood, though, it's the Mabinogion.  Tegan and Five star in the title roles, much to their dismay (and Five's firm belief that the Book must have meant to cast them as Gareth and Lynette, since he's never mean to his companion).  Plus, Adric gets killed as usual and the Brigadier features as King Arthur, although he did have better things to do...

"What's so difficult about it?" asked Gwen Cooper. "You manage those
children with no sweat at all, but when it comes to reading them a
bedtime story -."

Izzy sighed. "You've been *in* one. Didn't that show you?"

"Frankly, it was a bit disturbing, but no worse than the day job.
I'll give it a go."

She looked at her cautiously. "I promised them a story about a
knights and castles."

"No problem," said Gwen, smiling.

Oh, and, this is what Peri and Six are arguing about throughout:

(The scene where they stay with an Earl on their journey - in Gwen's
version, played by the Second Doctor).

GEREINT / SIXTH DOCTOR enters with ENID / PERI trailing behind him.

GEREINT
Really, Enid, if you can't control seven horses at once I don't know
what I'm going to do with you.  I would never have lost three of them
in that careless fashion.  No, don't say anything - I'm still not
allowing you to talk!

ENID / PERI
Don't worry - I can't get a word in edgeways.

NARRATOR / IZZY
They went into the court of the Earl who had invited them.

EARL / GOVERNER OF VAROS
Greetings.  What sort of journey is this?

GEREINT
I intend to simply look for adventure and do the errands I like.

EARL
Very admirable.  And the young lady - I see that she is somewhat
estranged from you.  May I go and speak to her?

GEREINT
Do what you like; I don't care!  She's just a silly, hopeless
flibberty-gibbet of a girl who loses horses and does everything she
can to make me look foolish.  [Marches off and sulks]

NARRATOR
The Earl looked on Enid and thought that he had never seen a lovelier
girl, nor a finer one and he set his heart and soul on her.

PERI / ENID
Not again...

EARL / GOVERNOR
Lady, you cannot enjoy travelling with that man.

ENID [suddenly rebelling]
You know what?  You're right.  I don't.

EARL
In that case, I have an idea - you stay here with me and I shall give
you power over my earldom and an unlimited supply of Zyton 7.

ENID
It's tempting, but unfortunately, I'm stuck with him.  [Holds up hand
so that he can see the wedding ring.]

EARL
The only thing to be done is for me to kill him - there would be no
obstacle then to you becoming my wife and ruling over my earldom with
me.

ENID
Okay, then.

*
NARRATOR
Hang about!  Peri!

[It is too late.  Varosian Guards circle in on GEREINT / SIX and shoot
him]

CHIEF / KNIGHT
Hmm, a shame no one thought to bring a video camera.  We could have
made a fortune from his demise.

PERI
Oh.  You really went and shot him!

EARL [holding out his hands]
Well, my dear, you did say we could.

PERI
Murderer!

EARL
This way, my dear - time for the wedding.

ENID
You're not going to ask me to look after a lot of horses are you?

EARL
Of course not.  I have servants for that sort of thing.

ENID
Okay. Let's tie the knot.  It can't be worse than most of my other
marriages...

NARRATOR [in outraged tones but unsure what else to do]
So Enid married the kind Earl and lived happily ever after.  And had
he lived, I suppose Gereint would have learned a valuable lesson about
treating people well and not giving in to violent fits of jealousy.

Izzy closed the book with a snap.  "Bedtime!"

Six was staring at her with his mouth wide open, until he turned
slowly to look at little Peri beside him.  She was sucking her thumb
and looking as innocent as possible.

"Well," said Izzy firmly, "Nancy, that's the last time I let you
choose the story.  From now on, I'm banning any Celtic myths.  We'll
stick to fairy tales, I think."

The little Ainley Master was giggling uncontrollably.  "I liked that!
That was the best story ever!"

"Bedtime!" she ordered, standing up.  Even she couldn't tell a
sensible story these days, it seemed.  Still, it was the last time
anyone would ever risk something like Gereint and Enid in this
nursery...
