The YA/Children's Book fanfic exchange The Exchange at Fic Corner is live! I have barely poked about in it yet, but everything I have so much as looked at seems excellent, so you should go and have a read if you like any of the 100+ children's books & series that have been written for. (Chalet School, Narnia, Harry Potter, Diana Wynne Jones and many more!)
I'm just recovering from the shock of it not being anonymous (I don't pay enough attention to stuff), as I was so low about everything, I wouldn't have written any treats if I'd realised, and so had a shaky moment on seeing everything all out in the open already. (Anonymity feels so much safer right now.) However, I've recovered a bit now and am sure soon I'll have more recs. In the meantime, I have this very awesome fic written for me in Midnight Is A Place! I don't think it requires much knowledge of the source to enjoy, either. It has music and storytelling and Anna-Marie's complicated plan involving frogs, and feels very right for an Aiken fic, so it's wonderful:
The Curse of the Blue-Eyed Tiger (2707 words) by vanillafluffy
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Midnight Is a Place - Joan Aiken
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Anna-Marie Murgatroyd, Lucas Bell, Julian Oakapple
Additional Tags: Found Family
Summary:
So, that is a thing that was well worth the wait. (I've known I had a MiaP fic since last weekend and it has been very hard being patient and counting down the days through a rather miserable week.)

Anna-Marie's new friend stirs up unhappy memories for Lucas.

Date: 30 Sep 2013 07:29 pm (UTC)And thanks. ♥ I hope so - and I've had dinner and watched Downton Abbey now, so I am far more able to cope with not being anonymous!

Date: 30 Sep 2013 07:37 pm (UTC)I LOVED Violet telling Robert that when he talked like that, she felt like sending for Nanny and having him sent to bed with no supper.
Also I love Mrs Hughes more than ever.
So, yes, I am enjoying it a lot. I expect it probably could do something to annoy me one day, but mostly it is my TV happy place. All the deaths notwithstanding and even though it has never had David Collings in it. ;-D
(Hmm, but I have lost my DA icon, bad me.)

Date: 30 Sep 2013 07:41 pm (UTC)And yes, Violet's sassiness is even more spectacular so far this season! I LOVE HER TO BITS AND PIECES!
Ditto on loving Mrs Hughes, too - I want a Mrs Hughes, please!
You've lost your DA icon?!

Date: 30 Sep 2013 07:54 pm (UTC)If everyone had a Mrs Hughes, the world would be so much better run.
And, heh, yes, not so much lost it as discarded it for something else! I need to see to that - although, actually, I need to get my Yuletide icon back soon as well...
:-)

Date: 1 Oct 2013 05:30 am (UTC)Haha, that is very true. Let's clone Mrs Hughes and make the world a better run place!
Ah, I see.

Date: 1 Oct 2013 04:38 pm (UTC)And I'm glad you enjoyed it - and hope your students weren't too startled!! I suppose I had to post it, really, otherwise there'd have been no Blyton in the whole exchange - what is the world coming to?

Exactly! And it doesn't appear to have been nominated for Yuletide either, at least that I've seen, so I am doubly grateful there is something there. The Adventure Series are my absolute favourite of hers, and really, when I saw the notification in my inbox, there was no way to keep from squealing! My students will survive ;)

Date: 4 Oct 2013 11:53 am (UTC)As to yuletide - there's never any way of telling till we get to see the Tag Set!! The Adventure Series doesn't tend to get nominated very often though - The Famous Five is a bit of a regular occurrence.

Date: 4 Oct 2013 02:50 pm (UTC)I nominated Adventure Series I think two years ago . . ? I missed nominations last year, and this year I used them all up on other things, so I just hope somebody else put in for it. It is far and away my favourite. I never quite identified with any of the Five enough to feel the same affinity for those books . . . though I did once have a dog who could have doubled for a mini-Timmy ;) He was supremely discerning about the company he kept!

Date: 2 Oct 2013 11:58 am (UTC)I really need to re-read The Owl Service - such a great book, and I found I couldn't remember enough to read the fic. But, yes, owl Service fic! That's far and away the best of Alan Garner, as far as I'm concerned. It is a good week for David Collings related fic!!
