... to the wonderful liadtbunny! I do hope you're having an excellent day, with all the gloomy old 70s telly you could possibly wish for. ♥

Also, in another note, there's a blog out there where the user has been reposting LJ posts without permission. (They seem to have set it up in some automated way to repost any posts tagged with "fanfic" or variations, or entries from selected blogs, possibly, but it includes anything tagged with that - random meme posts, challenge announcement and in one case, someone complaining about the blog stealing their posts, so they obviously don't bother looking at their own content.)

It's here

I've requested that my posts be removed. (They seemed to have taken all my entries tagged fanfic since July, regardless of fandom.)

I noticed (when going through the "fanfic" tag) entries stolen from [personal profile] john_amend_all, liadtbunny (happy birthday! your fic has been stolen!), kaffyr, and also [personal profile] still_lycoris, who isn't on my flist, but I know some of you know.

I'm actually a lot less bothered than I probably should be about people stealing my fic, but I do very much object to someone reposting my LJ entries wholesale, and I may need to make a lot more things flocked for a while, because if it's possible to set up something like that for one tag, who knows who else is doing it for whatever kind of topic? Clearly a public entry really needs to be something I don't mind being more public than I'd planned on.

(I'm posting this publicly and tagging it "fanfic" though, because if the blog ends up with a whole lot of posts warning the world against itself, it serves the blogger right. You know, can we go back in time and prevent the invention of Tumblr or something? Not everything is made to be reblogged and context is a thing that exists, even on the internet.)

Good lord - thank you for the information; I've requested that my posts be removed, and that whoever it is (Russian, it appears) not post any of my LJ posts in future. When I have a moment, I'll spread the word.

Gah. Hope your Monday is going reasonably well!

I think it's a bit of a bloody cheek that the site owner is talking about Creative Commons Licences - while totally ignoring the fact that authors CHOOSE where they want to post their stuff, and this site takes that choice away.

There's a "Complain Here" link on the sidebar if anyone wants it: http://fanfic-journal.com/complain-here/

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes and I have indeed dodgy old new TV to watch:) My nose has dried up which is good!

Yes, Happy birthday I've been robbed! I can't believe the arrogance of the owner's reply to skyfish and I put in my profile to ASK before archiving &*!£^&*&%^$ (and I would have most probably said yes if they did). I think I'll have to f-lock more posts than I normally would if the site is indiscriminately hoovering up posts :/ I'll try and see if I can complain to wordpress directly as the site claims wp is hosting it.

EDIT #1: It's not a wordpress site, but possibly uses its software, so I don't know who else to complain to:/
#2 I have cake:)

I just can't believe their attitude about the whole damned thing. And how is it 'too hard' to ask permission? Doing what they're doing (trolling for posts via a tagging system) is essentially not legit. They aren't even bothering to check the content, which is disturbing and may get this blogger in trouble if they post the wrong thing...they should stop this asshattery for that, if not to preserve the feelings of people they claim to admire.

Thanks for the heads-up. I found one of my stories there and asked to be put on the exclude list.

I think I get what they're trying to do--it can be really hard to find fic that's posted on LJ, and it looks like they're essentially trying to build an aggregation feed--but it's still really frustrating to have your public posts subject to reprinting in their entirety.

(This post did make it up there, btw, so there is now criticism of the site on the site itself!)

Congratulations on getting this post up there!

It's definitely a weird thing. Why indiscriminately scrape everything marked "fanfic" from a bunch of LJ sites? Are they making money from advertising?

No matter what, people shouldn't be re-posting fic (or anything, really) from around the internet without permission. Sorry you've been targeted.

Regardless of the morality of the whole idea, it's pretty funny that this entry is currently top of the page there. It's currently damning itself, the poor, schizophrenic little blog.

The idea of an aggregated fanfic journal isn't a bad one, but it really ought to be done with straightforward links to fic. This way just seems creepy, as it's clearly grabbing non-fic as well. I appreciate that this is the easy, non-ridiculously-time-consuming method. But still.

They don't seem to have anything of mine up, but I shall keep an eye on it... Someone's just posted to fanficrants abour it, so I expect/hope the wrath of that comm will descend upon this blogger, and serves them right.

Here via [livejournal.com profile] a_phoenixdragon, who first clued me in to this travesty. It was very clever of you to figure out that the site was automated, and was pulling content using the "fanfic" tag. That explains a lot--including the appearance of personal entries that only mention writing in passing. At first I thought that this was the work of some well-meaning fan with a hazy idea of what "Creative Common License" and "fair use" meant (who was maybe just too lazy to get permission to boot) but apparently it's more sinister than that. *Shudder*

As far as I can tell I wasn't personally affected but several people I know (and even more whose names I recognize from various fandoms) have been, and I've been doing my best to get the word out to them.

I love, love, LOVE the fact that you used the site's own mechanics to get it to post your rant against it. *Bows down to you.*

I saw a similar thing a couple of months ago - found one of my LJ entries, and loads of people's blog posts from around the Internet, copied in their entirety on the website "benaffleckbatman.net". It seemed to be collecting posts that happened to mention Batman. Very weird and disturbing - must be some kind of spammy purpose behind it. :/

I lock every post unless it's a story or announcement I'm happy that the whole world could see. I tend to tag "Story" rather than "fanfic", as the longer I've been writing the less I like the term. I didn't mind it when I started this blog, but it is so often used in a negative way.

I tag as "fic" instead of "fanfic" so they don't seem to have gleaned anything from me... except for the rant warning people about them that I just posted.

I have an adblock, but other people are saying there are ads on the site and it's pretending to be wordpress? I'll bet you anything that this person is doing this for ad revenue from people searching for fanfic. It's probably not a lot of revenue, but if you set up a few dozen blogs with the auto-import, then they practically run themselves and kick back a few bucks a week in profit.

Which is skeevy as hell. I hope their feed is inundated with complaints.

I couldn't find my name on there, and adjusted all my tags except the 'about fanfiction' one which are mostly flist only anyway ...

Not nice.

And yet, I sometimes see my icons being used without crediting across LJ and DW and I have to admit, it doesn't worry me at all. There's a difference in my head...

Good for you for getting your complaint up on their own site. That'll learn 'em!

Could you also report the site as a website forgery? You said it's claiming to be a WP blog but it isn't, so wouldn't it qualify?

In terms of complaining, https://who.is/whois/https://fanfic-journal.com gives you some contacts that might be worth trying - they are just the domain name people, though, can't tell who the host is, though.

WordPress won't care because their software looks like a lot of other software. Plus it was at least created with WP (version 3.7) - when you view the source there are a whole load of wp specific locations going on in there. If they've since moved it it would explain why I can't find any of the pages in the root directory that are in mine.

The person who created the theme might well not care either because there is a credit to them on there, although it's bizarrely, not a link, even though it should be (I found other blogs using the same them at http://www.wpbyexample.com/wordpress-theme/TheSearchEngineGuysLLC/Locket).

Edit: Also, WordPress is free (I wouldn't use it otherwise!), so not sure it can be stolen in quite the way you mean.
