My now-regular Thursday feature! (We'll see how long this lasts. ;-p)
1. For some reason I'd been feeling a bit down the last couple of days, but you know what is always at least a little bit cheering at such moments? Multi-era Doctor Who fanvids. I was cheering myself with Marching On by xxdrosexx and then wondering why I didn't have any yet that went up to Twelve, so I went looking, and found this, which is also great:
Because Doctor Who is, after all, that great big improbable and ridiculous thing of joy and monsters. :-)
And I'm continuing to enjoy watching (or reading) from the sidelines as the Public Call fics get revealed, so here's two more good ones:
2. A Taste of Home by dbskyler (G, 1784 words. Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan.) Sarah, the Doctor, and home. Lovely glimpse of some 'missing scenes' from Terror of the Zygons.
3. Side Quest by annariel (G, 6388 words. Harry Sullivan, Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith.) Harry is collecting equipment for the Doctor when he runs into an adventure of his own. Can he foil the evil Dr. Richards, while at the same time helping the Doctor and Sarah fend off an alien invasion they somehow never quite have the time to explain properly to him? Excellent missing adventure, with Harry getting to prove his worth.
4. The Terrible Doom That Came To Honeysuckle Cottage by Psychomachia (Teen, 2592 words.) There's a saying old says that love is blind
Still we're often told, seek and ye shall find
So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind. One of the best and funniest fics to come out of last year's Yuletide: the Cthulhu Mythos meets P.G. Wodehouse's Honeysuckle cottage. (Definitely a don't-need-to-know-canon fic.)
5. By Wise Council You Shall Make Your War by beer_good_foamy (Teen, 722 words. Edmund Blackadder, George Colthurst St. Barleigh, Baldrick, Bob. Crossover with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) In each generation, a Slayer is born. She alone will stand against the etc etc. In 1917, that was a young woman named... um... Bob? Good thing the Watcher's Council have an auxiliary member already in place in the trenches. What it says, oh yes, oh yes. :-D

Date: 15 Dec 2016 03:50 pm (UTC)I like your rec there, but, alas, have seen it before, which I can tell because I liked it at some point. I wish there were many more multi-Doctor fanvids that included #12. If I had vid-making skills, I'd do some myself. Alas, no...

Date: 15 Dec 2016 05:01 pm (UTC)(And, aww, but it's a lovely vid, full of heart. Someone having left fandom doesn't change that in the slightest. Lots of people have left the fandom; most of them didn't leave a lovely vid like that behind them! And it included everyone up to the date it was made; I ask for no more.)
Vid-making skills are not hard! Battling with the tech is harder, but vidding itself? Actually quite easy. Just move the clips up and down the timeline and watch the result!

Date: 15 Dec 2016 11:35 pm (UTC)Thanks also for the rec. :) And I will second the rec of Side Quest, which amusingly has the exact same characters as my fic, but is very different, and also one of the best Harry Sullivan fics I have ever read.

Date: 16 Dec 2016 10:02 am (UTC)It seems to have been a bit of a Four-Sarah-Harry fic-fest, because the first fic posted was Sarah and Harry, too. Or one of the first ones, anyway. They should rename it that! (This is definitely not me complaining, either!)
