It's that time! Although other people seem to be doing a slightly different one, but that's the internet and memes for you; this one is my regular. Last year's results are here.
By Hits (minus the handful which must have been skewed by bots or a bug):
1. Century's End (Poldark, Ross/Demelza, 2692 words) 2053 hits.
2. Not Bad for a First Attempt (Heyer, Rule/Horry, 200 words), 1918 hits.
3. Truth & Compromise (Discworld, William de Worde/Sacharissa Cripslock, 4404 words), NYR 2011, 1592 hits.
4. So We Meet at Last (Miss Marple/Dracula crossover, 578 words) Fan Flashworks, 1414 hits.
5. This Single World Is Double Till I Die (OUaT, Emma/Regina, 4138 words), 1387 hits.
6. something in the heart (15th C Hist/Shadow of the Tower, Henry VII/Elizabeth of York, 730 words), Trope Bingo, 1337 hits.
7. Ten Times The Doctor (Almost) Got Hitched (Doctor Who, 5358 words), 1318 hits.
8. Observation (Miss Marple/Harry Potter crossover, Miss Marple & Luna, 357 words), 1282 hits.
9. Rewards of Battle (15th C Hist/Shadow of the Tower, Henry VII/Elizabeth of York, 669 words), 1158 hits.
10. Five Times the Doctor Got in the Way of Captain Janeway (and One Time They Got Along Just Fine) (DW/ST: Voyager crossover, 5260 words), 1132 hits.
10.
That's mostly the same collection of Yuletide fic, popular and accidentally popular pairings. (Poldark got a remake, and I was the one person in the universe who had written Ross/Demelza fic at the time. It was a cunning plan; ditto writing Shadow of the Tower Henry VII/Elizabeth of York fic about a year before The White Queen came along. I suspect those have had a recent boost from theoncoming terror of The White Princess - in the time it took me to make this post, something in the heart beat Ten Times... and Rewards of Battle skipped ahead of Five Times..., rising by about 30 and 50 hits respectively. Heh.) Miss Marple is still holding up, though she has now been trounced by me randomly intersecting with other people's OTPs.
Of course, given that some of my fic has definitely been affected by bugs/bots, I don't know how reliable any of these stats are at all, so onwards to the hopefully more reliable means of gauging popularity on AO3...
Kudos:
1. The Spirit of St Mary Mead (Miss Marple, 4005 words), Yuletide 2016, 184 kudos.
2. So We Meet at Last (Miss Marple/Dracula crossover, 578 words) Fan Flashworks, 155 kudos.
3. Century's End (Poldark, Ross/Demelza, 2692 words) 93 kudos.
4. Observation (Miss Marple/Harry Potter crossover, Miss Marple & Luna, 357 words), 89 kudos
5. Space Married (DW, Twelve/Clara, 940 words), prompt ficlet, 87 kudos.
6. Five Times the Doctor Got in the Way of Captain Janeway (and One Time They Got Along Just Fine) (DW/ST: Voyager crossover, 5260 words), 76 kudos.
7. Not Bad for a First Attempt (Heyer, Rule/Horry, 200 words), 71 kudos.
8. Truth & Compromise (Discworld, William de Worde/Sacharissa Cripslock, 4404 words), NYR 2011, 69 kudos.
9. Take the Second Path (OUaT, Emma/Regina, 2828 words), 68 kudos.
10. Of Elements and Existence (Discworld/S&S crossover, 2642 words), Yuletide 2012, 61 kudos.
Yes, my Miss Marple dusts Dracula ficlet has finally been displaced from its top spot... by Miss Marple being an actual goddess. I don't know why I bother writing other things when clearly "weird Miss Marple fic" is my most appreciated genre. (It got recced by a BNF and, wow, that is the most kudos I have ever had in so short a space of time.) Also zooming right into the top ten is "Space Married," which is pretty impressive for a writing meme ficlet. I would say the moral of the story is write more proper pairings, but frankly, nothing seems to beat Miss Marple. Especially not Dracula.

Yuletide still rules in the comments. 2016 was a good year, too! But Space Married is in this top ten, too, which is surprising but very nice. Twelve/Clara shippers will leave you love and comments. *nods*

The bookmarks are always a bit more random. They're also the only place where the general Doctor Who stuff starts to show, which I suppose makes sense, as that's the fic that's already been posted to Teaspoon, or sometimes to LJ, so people don't need to comment again, but some of them want to have it bookmarked on AO3, I suppose. But I really like Nobody's Property and I'm glad that I don't seem to be alone in that.

Date: 23 Apr 2017 07:12 pm (UTC)As far as I can tell, the best thing seems to be: write Miss Marple fic, write fic for an obscure 1970s British thing and sit back and wait two or three years for someone to reboot it, or write popular pairings, or get yourself recced by a BNF. And do Yuletide. Combine Miss Marple + Yuletide + BNF rec and you too can get 150 kudos in about two weeks!
(Which does underline again how ironic and random it all is, because while I think that fic is a decent piece and I was pleased with it, it's not all that much different to a lot of other things I've written that have got pretty much no attention.)
But it does mean I can do the stats meme and waffle about it. :-)
