I am having rl this week; it is rubbish. (Or at least, it was hot and now there is a Thing I have to go to tomorrow; everything will be at least better once the Thing is over and I have recovered, or more or less; it's a multi-part Thing, as so often in life. Stupid Thing.)
And then just now I happened to look and Network are having a 45% sale again!. And guess who still has nearly all her b'day money? Oh, yes, I do. Now I just have to decide what to spend it on, so at least that will be some sort of an antidote.
If you are in R2 or can play R2 discs, you too can snag yourself obscure old British telly! (Mostly ITV, it tends to be other companies that release the BBC stuff.) I have been poking through to see what's on offer from my wishlist (lots! \o/) and can tell you that you can also get Press Gang, Enemy at the Door, Public Eye and Sapphire and Steel at bargainous prices! (Also Manhunt, The Power Game, The Sandbaggers and Mr Palfrey and Undermind and Zodiac). So you should go out and buy themand then write me all the fic, obv.
Anyway, I thought I'd give the heads up and enable my like-minded souls on my flist. (
liadt, I am shocked that you did not already tell me this! I rely on you for these things! ;-D)

Date: 22 Jun 2017 07:02 am (UTC)(Technically, since it's taking me forever to get through The Beiderbecke Trilogy for reasosn, neither have I, but they have a sale, I have birthday money and many things I'm eyeing up that I definitely will watch, so...)

Date: 22 Jun 2017 07:09 am (UTC)(I am wallowing in the bliss of somewhat cooler temps - it got up to 32.6C in my room yesterday and Tues. Today (rn) it's a mere 25.6 - which feels practically cool in comparison!)
(Oh yeah - saw the knee guy again yesterday about my MRI scan - he's referring me to the Pain Clinic to see if they can help me manage my pain since an operation is definitely not an option.)

Well, I hope they can find something to help for you. *hugs*

BTW, should've said before (I'm distracted by beta-reading shiny new novel for my author friend, but that's NO excuse), I hope the Thing goes well.

Date: 22 Jun 2017 06:27 am (UTC)Dammit! Sapphire & Steel at bargainous prices would make me extremely happy, but this machine is not region-free and I am not convinced that I could make it so without breaking it; it never has been, which is why I have only watched my DVDs of Black Books at someone else's house. Region codes are bogus.
I hope the Thing goes as well as it can.

Edit: The sale finishes tomorrow (Friday) if you haven't decided what to choose yet.

Date: 24 Jun 2017 07:49 am (UTC)Network's new layout is v annoying (I still don't have a mobile device, why is the internet being made for them and not for my pc??? unreasonable!) but once I finally located the search option, all was well again.

Date: 24 Jun 2017 11:23 am (UTC)I don't like the layout either. I haven't been on the site for ages and I was like why have they made it look like a cheap, free layout design and then the penny dropped, damn mobiles:/ I've got a smartphone and I don't like mobile layouts on it and ebay thinks I'm in America on mobile!

Date: 27 Jun 2017 04:35 am (UTC)OK, which Public Eyes should I buy first? I'll probably get just a couple to begin with and see how I go on with them.
Meanwhile I hope it's cooled down over there and you're more comfortable... send us some of your sun! Here in Australia it's pretty cold. Strange but true.

Date: 27 Jun 2017 07:37 am (UTC)\o/ This is a very difficult question to answer, as the first half of the series is missing (S1-3) and S4 is very much its own thing. I would suggest S5 or the surving early episodes to start + S4 (to watch after that), or all three of those, depending on how far you want to splurge. Or if you're wary of the older, b&w stuff (some of it does take a little getting used to), get S5 & S6 and then you can work backwards if you like it. (S4 is the best, though, once you get into the way it works.) Alfie is amazing, though, whatever - out of the surviving eps, he is probably at his very best in S4 & 5, but the remaining glimpses of S1-3 are v sad-making that we don't have more.
(S3, 5,6 & 7 were the ones also script-edited and in some cases produced by Michael Chapman.)
Although, to be honest, it's such a weird series, maybe you should just get whatever's cheapest and make sure you watch at least 4-5 episodes before you give up!
But I hope you like it! It is weird and downbeat, but v complex and layered and mundane, and Alfred Burke is of course the best.

I would, but it's just started being cold and rainy here. Perhaps the sun is already making it's way back to you? ;-)
